FREE CPR Classes hosted by
Emergency Medical Consultants, Inc.

"Back in 1995, Shaun Fix witnessed a multitude of tragedies.  Over the course of the year, thirteen children drowned while he served as a paramedic for Boca Raton Fire Rescue. Completely disheartened, he knew something had to be done -- something had to change.  Shaun decided to tackle the root of the problem.  While the medics and nurses he worked closely with knew how to perform proper CPR, the general public was woefully uninformed. At the time, he ran a small medical training company called Emergency Medical Consultants (EMC), which taught classes to healthcare providers and laypersons alike. He knew there was a general apathy towards learning CPR.  People were not interested in paying for a class that wasn't mandatory for their careers; they needed a bit of convincing.

As summer of '96 drew near, so did the time when most adolescent drownings take place.  Shaun set up several CPR courses, at no charge, and told everyone he worked with to help spread the word.  The program was an immediate success, with parents and grandparents attending courses throughout the Treasure Coast and the Palm Beaches.  In the years since, countless instructors have volunteered their time to train the general public and ensure they are ready to act when an emergency strikes.  Additionally, various locations provided classrooms to push the program further.  Some of the biggest contributors include Lawnwood Regional Medical Center, Martin Health Systems, Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Boca Raton Fire Rescue, and recently, Indian River Medical Center.

CPR saves lives.  Nobody expects to be there when cardiopulmonary emergencies take place, but they are the most common cause of death around the globe.  The more our community prepares, the safer we will all be.  Take it from me, I was forced to use CPR last year, when my wife and I found a man passed out with his head fully submerged in a river. We aren't healthcare providers, just two people attending a wedding who happened to take a CPR class a few months prior.

EMC has grown immensely, but it has never stopped providing free CPR courses at the beginning of every summer.  This year, courses can be found on the following dates":
