Volunteer at Tradition Medical Center - Martin Health Auxilliary
"Martin Health System teenage volunteer program is designed to give students the opportunity to volunteer in a hospital environment. In order to assure that Martin Health maintains its high quality of service to the community, our teenage volunteers are selected on a competitive basis."

Today’s Auxiliary is made up of men and women from all walks of life and almost every occupation. Our volunteers are retired or working adults, college students and teenagers seeking to give back to their community. The Martin Health Auxiliary is one of the largest auxiliaries in the state of Florida, and has:

- More than 915 volunteers
- Almost 158,178 volunteer hours contributed annually
- More than $3.6 million in labor cost savings to Martin Health System in calendar year 2014.

"We do not accept volunteers who are required to volunteer as a condition of a court-ordered sentence.

Participation Requirements

To participate in the teenage volunteer program, students must be/have:

15 to 18 years of age
Minimum grade level of 9th grade

Manatee Observation and Education Center
"The Manatee Observation and Education Center is an active environmental education center in Downtown Fort Pierce. We have our Exhibit Hall and our Vanishing Mermaid Gift Shop which both have ongoing needs for volunteers in many different capacities.  The shifts are 3 ½ or 4 hours each.  All prospective volunteers need to complete an application. Teens can be as young as 14 and all adults must complete a background check.

Our Exhibit Hall has opportunities for Greeters, Discovery Guides (explaining the exhibits to our guests), Roving Naturalist (outside position teaching about the Indian River Lagoon and spotting Manatees), Education Assistants (work with our education coordinator for special educational programs), Vanishing Mermaid Gift Shop Sales Assistant or Stock Assistant, Clerical Assistant (works in back office in a variety of positions).

VolunTEEn Program at the Hobe Sound Nature Center
The Hobe Sound Nature Center is a private, non-profit organization located at the Hobe Sound Nature Wildlife Refuge.Interviews after application is reviewed. Require at least a 6 month commitment. 6 hours/month during the school year. 12 hours/month during summer months. Volunteer T-shirts can be obtained for $5 donation. Name tags given after 2 months of volunteering.

Opportunities for individuals 16 - 21. Earn an incentive for attending Youth Employment Success Solutions (YESS). Earn $9/hour for 32 hours per week, for 6 weeks during your internship.

To be eligible, you must be between 16-21, live in St Lucie County, Provide required documents and complete an application. Commit to 2 weeks of participation in the YESS program, and be able to complete a 6 week paid internship.

Hook Kids On Fishing Clinic & Wading in the Grassflats at the Hobe Sound Nature Center
9AM - 11AM. "In partnership with the Hobe Sound Nature Center and Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge, Anglers for Conservation (AFC) is coordinating AFC’’s Hook Kids on Fishing program.
Kids ages 6 to 16, are welcome along with their parents. The first 70 kids registered will receive a free rod and reel from Fish Florida. Registration is required by visiting anglersforconservation.org . Please submit registration cancelations to mike@anglersforconservation.org .

These conservation-minded Hook Kids on Fishing programs teach casting, fishing safety, knot tying, the tackle box, boating, catch and release tactics, fishing habitat and conservation; and are taught by professional guides and knowledgeable anglers. Parents and kids bring your smiles, positive attitudes and patience along with you!

Parent or guardian must accompany attendees. Please arrive a few minutes early to get signed in.  Stick around after Fishing for "Wading in the Grassflats!" At 12:30PM, we explore the seagrasses with hand nets and seine. Participants will catch and release small marine animals that call the estuary home. This popular get wet activity is recommended for ages 4 and up with an adult. Meet at the classroom at 12:30PM. Additional community sponsors include Aylesworth's Fish & Bait, Inc., Fish Florida, Daiichi Hooks, Hoo-rag and Yamaha Outboards.

The Hook Kids on Fishing program is a product of the Anglers for Conservation, a non-profit-501-C3, whose mission is to inspire new generations of marine stewards through education, conservation, and fishing.

Event begins at 6:30PM. "The Environmental Studies Center and Council proudly presents Youth Driven Cinema, a K-12 Environmental Film Festival. The film festival is the first event of its kind in Martin County.

The mission of Youth Driven Cinema is to engage the youth of Martin County by fostering community involvement and environmental awareness through the arts and sciences. Students not only enter their films, but help plan the film festival, and MC the event. The general public is encouraged to attend. Entry is free and donations will be accepted to support summer camp scholarships at the Environmental Studies Center.

Students' are welcome to enter a variety of film styles ranging from animation to short documentaries. This year’s theme is “Saving Florida’s Ecosystems.” The top five short films in four categories will be presented at the film festival. Prizes will be awarded to the top three films in each category. The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office hosts a Teen Driver Challenge
at the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office Training Room, 5:30PM - 8PM. Event is two days (classroom session 5/16, driving range 5/18). Licensed teen drivers can take "Teen Driver Challenge" to improve their skills. "Sheriff Mascara is committed to the safety of the community including our youth and has implemented a number of programs directing the efforts of the Sheriff’s Office to provide education and training to protect them.  These programs have targeted issues that concern parents, and now Sheriff Mascara is offering a new program specifically designed for the teen driver. Classroom Topics (2 Hours): Vehicle Dynamics, Human Factors, Responsibility, Liability, Drug and Alcohol Use, Night Driving, Aggressive Driving and Road Rage.
